Myanmar 20th Century.<br>Overview:<br>An exquisite and rather large antique Mythological Male 'Nat' Figure from Burma, hand-carved of auspicious Teakwood, modeled in the form of a nature Animistic Spriit shrouded by foliage. In Burmese culture there are many forms of Nats, angels or local native deities who all met a violent death, and were worshipped by the people of Myanmar before Buddhism became popular. Some of these spirits have benevolent nature, expressing sympathy and understanding, while offering protection in warding off evil, while others have been seen to represent more adverse phenomena. Among the key 37 Nats, this figure is that of a kindhearted and goodwll spirit, showcases a natural smiling expression, that shows us the Nats happy nature. -<br>"Oh joyful Guardian Spirit, may you show us with your blessings, the blessings of Nature and the Divine.<br>Description:<br>A wonderful depiction of a young Male Burmese Nat Prince, fashioned with a flesh-colored face for the Burmese people to identify the character as a good spirit, modeled from a solid piece of timber, intricately carved and vividly hand-painted, portraying a benevolent natured figure standing on a double Lotus amidst a variety of vegetation, holding a lotus flower with his right hand elevated while the left hand holding the stem. He is dressed in a long stylized regal garment decorated in floral plates and complimented by a bell shaped central panel draped in layers to the bottom hem.
